StuSells Tankard returns Elite Curling to Toronto Source: OCT Press Release It's been many year since Toronto hosted an event capable of drawing curling's top teams in the country into the city for an elite cashspiel event. 24 Men's teams and 15 Women's teams will descend upon High Park Club in Toronto on Thanksgiving weekend for the StuSells Toronto Tankard, one of the elite events in Ontario this season.
The Men's teams will be playing a triple knockout, with $32,000 in cash prizes, and $10,000 going to the champion. The women's teams will be competing in a round-robin format for $13,500 in prizes, playing for a first prize of $5,000. Online Registration is now open on the Ontario Curling Tour (OCT) website.
The event will begin on Friday, October 8th, with qualifying continuing through til Sunday. 8 Men's teams and 6 Women's teams will qualify for the Championship Round, which will take place on Monday, October 11th, with the finals taking place at 3pm.
With this being the 100th Anniversary of High Park Club, the facility is undergoing 1.2 million in renovations over the next 2 years, and hosting the Mixed and Senior Mixed provincials this coming season, along with the StuSells Toronto Tankard.
"High Park has expressed interest in a Tour event for a couple years now, and Roy Arndt has done a great job getting this event off the ground," added OCT Executive Director Gerry Geurts.
"A major event of this class should draw many of the better teams in Eastern Canada into Toronto and will give the local teams a great testing ground for their skills."
Teams will earn points towards the Canadian Team Ranking System and Order of Merit, qualifying teams for the Grand Slams, and the Canada Cup of Curling, as well as overall rankings of the Ontario Curling Tour.
