JSD State Farm Ratebuster debuts in Port Perry
Source: OCT Press Release
The Ontario Curling Tour is very pleased to announce a new addition to it's 2010/11 schedule as the Jon St. Denis State Farm Ratebuster is set to take place at the Port Perry Curling Club from October 1-3, 2010.

This event is pleased to feature a 16 team Men's triple knockout competition, similar to the end of season Players' Championship, with a total prize purse of $13,500 and a $4,000 top prize. Eight qualifiers will receive a minimum of $1,000 for reaching Sunday's playoff round.

An 8 team, Women's pools format event was added to offer local competitive teams the opportunity to play for a $2,500 purse and $1,000 first prize cheque. This event should give some new teams some experience on the OCT, as the Tour is attempting to bridge the gap between the top tier teams and the skilled teams playing in their own clubs.

This new event is supported by long-time OCT curler Jon St. Denis of Stouffville, and will add another early season event to the schedule that teams can choose from.

"This spiel gives me the opportunity to partner with a sport I love and in the community that boasts some of the best talent in the game. I'm hopeful this will be a long lasting relationship as the sport continues to grow thanks to the continuing efforts of Gerry Geurts and bonspiel organizers such as Rob Steele", added title sponsor St. Denis.

"The curling community has been good to me on and off the ice both in the sport and in business opportunities....I'm thrilled to be able to give a little something back."

With the addition of the Jon St. Denis State Farm Ratebuster to the schedule, the OCT is hoping to build more events in the Toronto to Kingston corridor, joining Whitby and several smaller events to give teams more opportunities to play closer to home.

"Port Perry gave has given us the opportunity to start a promising event in the Toronto area. The fact that it's a triple knockout and in the East end of the city makes this spiel a strong addition to the OCT lineup".

Port Perry is located on Lake Scugog, just an hour North-East of downtown Toronto. This small town has been very active in developing and supporting competitive curling in the area. Last season the club started a very successful Fall Competitive curling league which runs through September and finishes up by Thanksgiving. Also, the Scugog Cup remains a popular OCT tour stop and is set for the weekend of November 20, 2010.

Teams are asked to register online through the Ontario Curling Tour website. Any questions can be directed to Rob Steele at info@portperrycurling.com.
